More than one-thousand police will be in Sydney's CBD this weekend to ensure the city's world famous Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade isn't marred by anti-social or criminal behaviour.

The annual parade tomorrow night sets out from Hyde Park then snakes its way up Oxford Street with up to 300 thousand people expected to flock to the city for the parade.

Mardi Gras Operation Commander Assistant Commissioner Alan Clarke says officers have been briefed to take a very firm approach and a very low tolerance to bad behaviour.

A number of alcohol-free zones will be in place along the parade route patrolled by officers including mounted and plain-clothes police and the riot squad.
