Matildas downed by England in China

England have defeated Australia in an international women's soccer friendly 1-0 in Chonqqing, China.

The Matildas will return from China winless from their two-match tour after being defeated by England 1-0 in Chonqqing.

Isobel Christiansen scored the only goal of the match early in the second half of Tuesday night's international friendly.

Emily van Egmond had Australia's best chance to equalise but headed over the bar from six metres out on the hour mark.

Australian-based Matildas will return home to resume W-League commitments.

Their next matches are scheduled to be 2016 Olympic crunch qualifiers in March in Japan.
