Matthew Clarke says his AFL ruck coaching won't suffer from his new role as coach of the Crows' women's team.
Clarke will continue as men's part-time ruck coach while being the head coach of Adelaide's AFLW team next season.
The 44-year-old is adamant the dual roles complement each other.
"Ultimately that is going to be one of my individual challenges but in some ways it's going to hopefully benefit both programs," Clarke told reporters on Wednesday.
"The two seasons are independent ... the capacity to combine is something that I'm pretty confident I will be able to manage.
"AFL mandates that we only get access to the female athletes for nine hours a week because they're semi-professional.
"So that leaves the capacity (to coach them men)."
Clarke takes over as women's coach from Bec Goddard, who resigned for work reasons, leaving no female coaches in the AFLW.
Clarke, Adelaide's AFL ruck coach for the past decade after a distinguished 258-game playing career at Brisbane and the Crows said he would relish coaching a side in his own right.
But he wasn't considering the move as a stepping stone for an AFL head coaching bid.
"It's not a development opportunity, it's a destination," he said of the AFLW.
"A committed group of athletes, great upside, they want to get better, and a highly-competitive competition, a well-resourced club.
"If you're into coaching, those are the core elements that you're looking for ... this is where you want to be if you're interested in coaching."
