News that facebook profiles for some of Australia's most infamous prison inmates have appeared has prompted the NSW Corrective Services Minister, Phil Costa, to pledge to shut them down.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that profiles have appeared for Goulburn SuperMax inmates including convicted serial-killer Ivan Milat in recent months - despite the fact inmates are not allowed web access.
The paper goes on to report that associates of inmates, including convicted 'bikie' murderers, are updating the pages on their behalf.

But according to the ABC, the inmates' new-found online freedom could be short lived, with authorities seeking new legislation to tackle the breach.
"The last thing we want is for them to be communicating to the outside world and it will be very difficult to determine how one would manage that through legislation but I am certainly keen to find a way to try and close them down", Costa was reported as saying.
