Maxwell latest Aussie out of IPL

Glenn Maxwell will miss the final two games of the Indian Premier League with a side strain, however he is still expected to tour the West Indies.

Glenn Maxwell has become the fifth Australian cricketer to return home early from the Indian Premier League.

Maxwell, who has a side strain, is expected to be fit in time for next month's tour of the West Indies for the ODI tri-series with the Windies and South Africa.

He will miss the final two matches of the IPL for his Kings XI side.

"Glenn reported increasing soreness in his left abdomen area following last night's match and as such a decision was made for him to return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the West Indies tour," Australian physiotherapist David Beakley said.

"From the information we have so far, the injury doesn't appear to be something that will prevent Glenn from participating in this tour.

"But we are keen to give him the necessary time to recover before departing to the West Indies at the end of this month."

Maxwell's decision to return home follows similar departures from Australian captain Steve Smith, Mitch Marsh, John Hastings and Shaun Marsh.

Smith (wrist) and Mitch Marsh (side strain) are also expected to be fit for the Windies series.

Hastings (ankle) has been replaced in the tour squad by fellow-Victorian Scott Boland, while Shaun Marsh (back) was not named due to the impending birth of his child.
