Glenn Maxwell insists he's hitting the ball as well as ever despite a run drought at international level.
Ahead of the top-of-the-table Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia starting on Sunday, the Victorian and Australian allrounder says he's in good form even though his scores don't reflect that.
Maxwell made 0, 6 and 0 in the one-day series in New Zealand which ended on Monday and scored three and another duck in two Twenty20 games against India last month.
"That's the funny thing, I haven't made a lot of runs in my last couple of digs but I don't feel out of form," Maxwell said on Thursday at the MCG.
"You look back two-and-a-half weeks ago and I had the innings of my career (scoring 96 against India).
"It's pretty solid in my memory too that I'm hitting the ball as well as I ever have."
Maxwell will only be available for the one Shield match for Victoria at the Adelaide Oval before joining the Australia T20 squad in South Africa at the end of the month.
He said he hoped to push his chances for selection for Australia's Test series against Sri Lanka later this year.
"I'll look to spend some time in the middle and look to put my name up in lights for the longer format of cricket; it's something I haven't shied away from and it's been my main goal at some stage to get back in the baggy green," Maxwell said.
"That'll only come with performance and consistent performances which is something I've been made well aware of."
Maxwell and fellow one-day international representatives Matthew Wade, Marcus Stoinis and Scott Boland were named in the Bushrangers' squad, while John Hastings has been rested to keep him fresh for Australia's World T20 campaign in India next month.
Teenage gloveman Sam Harper has made way for Wade while Cameron White and Ian Holland were also dropped.
The game will be the second pink-ball round played under day-night conditions of the Shield season.
