Glenn Maxwell is planning on getting his international career back on track through sheer weight of runs and wickets for Victoria, following his sacking from the Australian one-day team and a planned move to NSW fell through.
Maxwell was one of the stars of Australia's World Cup win in 2015, but the 28-year-old was a surprise omission from the recent one-day squads for Sri Lanka and South Africa.
Maxwell, however, has shown plenty of promise since being dropped, including a remarkable innings of 145 not out in a Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka last month.
In Maxwell's absence, Australia crashed to an embarrassing 5-0 ODI series defeat in South Africa over the past fortnight.
And Maxwell says he is prepared to do everything possible at state level in order to attract the attention of the national selectors.
"I'm trying to forget about the past and what has been going on with my career with Australia, and I have just been concentrating on taking as many runs and wickets as I can for Victoria, that is all I can do at the moment," Maxwell said.
"If you start dwelling on what has gone by, you start to think you deserve things and no cricketer deserves anything apart from if they are playing really well, so if they do get that selection they obviously deserve it.
"If I keep making runs and taking wickets then let the rest take care of itself."
Despite a remarkable record in the shortened forms of the game, Maxwell - who has played three Tests - says red-ball cricket in where he is strongest.
"I'm looking forward to the longer form of the game," Maxwell said. "As I have said previously, it is my best format and my best record as far as statistics go so looking forward to getting involved and having success with Victoria this season.
"I am not thinking about it (Australian selection). I have just been concentrating on my own game.
"I'm looking forward to the (Sheffield) Shield, with a good run of matches leading into the Big Bash."
Maxwell says he would not rule out a move to NSW in the future to further his career, after a failed attempt to join the Blues just prior to the start of this season.
"I thought for the development of my game (NSW was the best move)," Maxwell said.
"I thought the SCG was the best option for my bowling development, and for my batting I thought I could really prosper there."
