May, Matera banned by AFL match review

Melbourne's Steven May and Fremantle's Brandon Matera have been offered one-game suspensions by the AFL's match review officer.

Melbourne's prized recruit Steven May is set to miss the start of the AFL premiership season after being offered a one-match ban for rough conduct.

Fremantle's Brandon Matera has also been offered a one-match suspension for striking by the match review officer after the last round of pre-season games.

Ex-Gold Coast captain May has been cited for rough conduct on Brisbane's Jarrod Berry, while Matera has been charged with striking West Coast's Jake Waterman.

Melbourne's Aaron vandenBerg faces two charges - a striking count and making careless contact with an umpire - but can accept fines totalling $3000 by pleading guilty.

And his teammate Clayton Oliver has been charged with striking Brisbane's Jarryd Lyons but will be fined $1500 if he pleads guilty.

Likewise, Hawthorn's Liam Shiels can accept a $2000 fine for striking Richmond's Jack Graham by pleading guilty.

St Kilda's Dean Kent has been offered a $2000 fine for rough conduct on Western Bulldog Bailey Williams while Port Adelaide's Todd Marshall can accept a $2000 fine for rough conduct on North Melbourne's Sam Wright.
