British Prime Minister Theresa May has called off a crucial vote in parliament on whether to approve her Brexit divorce deal, the BBC says.

"Two cabinet sources tell me vote being pulled - not, repeat not, yet officially confirmed," the BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg said on Twitter.

May pulled the vote set for Tuesday after repeated warnings from MPs that the scale of the expected defeat could sink her government.

She will make a statement to the House of Commons at 3.30pm local time on Britain's exit from the European Union, Labour Party MPs responsible for party discipline said on Monday.

"The Prime Minister will be making an oral statement today at 330pm titled 'Exiting the European Union'," the Labour Whips said on Twitter.

May convened a conference call with senior ministers earlier on Monday to discuss what do with her compromise deal that allowed the United Kingdom to exit while staying in the EU's orbit.

While there was no official word on the vote, two sources told the BBC's Kuenssberg that the vote was being pulled.

A Financial Times reporter said an official close to the cabinet had also confirmed the vote would be pulled.

May and her ministers had repeatedly insisted the vote would go ahead as planned. Her spokeswoman briefed reporters on Monday that there was no plan to pull the vote.

The report that May could cancel the vote came just hours after the top EU court ruled that Britain could cancel its notice to leave the bloc, which it is due to exit on March, 29.
