A leading candidate for next month's Rome mayoral election maintained her opposition to the city's bid for the 2024 Olympics on Monday, although she said she has nothing against the games themselves.
Virginia Raggi of the opposition 5-Star Movement met with Italian Olympic Committee president Giovanni Malago and his staff for nearly two hours.
She called the meeting "friendly".
"We talked about sports, Rome and obviously the Olympics, for which we reiterated our stance," Raggi said.
"The 5-Star Movement has never had any preconceptions toward the Olympic Games but in such a delicate moment for Rome we need to think about everyday items before considering extraordinary ones."
Centre-left mayoral candidate Roberto Giachetti and centre-right contender Giorgia Meloni support the Olympic bid.
Italian Premier Matteo Renzi is also a strong supporter of the bid, but acknowledged last month that if an anti-games candidate wins, "we won't be able to host the Olympics anymore".
Malago has also been meeting with the other candidates.
"It was a very positive meeting," Malago said after his talks with Raggi.
"The position of no preconceptions toward the games themselves is certainly an important aspect. Our candidacy is moving ahead with undivided support."
The mayoral vote is scheduled for June 5, with a possible runoff on June 19.
Paris, Los Angeles, and Budapest, Hungary, are the other candidates for the 2024 Games.
The IOC will select the host city in September 2017.
