Drivers who think they have it tough with the authorities in Australia should take note with the warning a Lithuanian mayor has doled out.

Drivers who think they have it tough with the authorities in Australia should take note.

The Mayor of the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, has taken an unorthodox method of getting behind the city's push to support cyclists - by crushing a Mercedes parked in a cycle lane.

In a video the city posted on YouTube, Mayor Arturas Zuokas can be seen at the front of an armoured car which rides roughshod over the German car in an otherwise deserted street.

A report in the Guardian newspaper said the Mercedes had been put there for the purposes of the PR stunt which puts hard-hat, speedo-wearing Australian pollies to shame.

The same goes, presumably, for the shocked returning owner of the car, who dutifully shakes hands with the man who has just crushed his vehicle.
