Regulators say the weekend fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas drew the biggest gate ever in Nevada.
The Nevada Athletic Commission says 16,146 tickets sold for just over $US20 million ($A21 million) for the Saturday bout at the MGM Grand Garden arena. That averages almost $US1,240 ($A1,310) per ticket.
Commission executive Keith Kizer said on Thursday the total eclipsed the $US18.4 million ($A19.5 million) earned from 17,000 tickets for Mayweather's super welterweight victory over Oscar De La Hoya at the MGM Grand in May 2007.
Reports said celebrities had trouble getting seats for the Mayweather-Alvarez fight, and some tickets sold online for $US29,000 ($A30,700).
Mayweather made a guaranteed $US41.5 million ($A44 million) and Alvarez earned $US5 million ($A5.3 million).
Only 50 complimentary tickets were distributed, and pay-per-view buys were expected to top $US100 million ($A105 million).
