McClenaghan left bruised by ball in eye

Mitchell McClenaghan says he's been left with a few broken bones after taking a ball to the eye during New Zealand's ODI against Pakistan.

New Zealand bowler Mitchell McClenaghan says he's been left with a few broken bones after copping a ball to the left eye during the Black Caps' 70-run one-day victory over Pakistan.

Tailender McClenaghan picked up 31 runs from 18 balls before retiring hurt with one ball to go in New Zealand's innings after he was knocked to the ground by a bouncer.

The delivery reared and found its way through a gap above his grill to hit him in the eye.

He didn't return to bowl.

"Thanks for all the concerns. Everything is as good as it can be just a few broken bones. Great win for the boys!" he later tweeted from a bed, along with a picture of his shiner.

Skipper Kane Williamson said McClenaghan had needed some stitches.

The second game of the three-match series is in Napier on Thursday.
