The hated Richmond station crush would become history under a billion-dollar proposal to transform the area around the MCG.
A report commissioned by the ground's management proposes new pathways built over the rail lines and road that separate the MCG from Melbourne Park.
One of the key elements for fans would be better access to Richmond rail station after major events such as AFL matches, international cricket or the Australian Open.
Currently, there are major crowd bottlenecks at the station.
Importantly, the raised platforms would also ease congestion on Brunton Ave, which goes around the west and south sides of the MCG.

"We thrive on a reputation that the whole sports precinct around Olympic Park and ourselves is regarded so highly across the world," Melbourne Cricket Club chief executive Stephen Gough told SEN radio.
"But to keep it there for the future is one of the challenges.
"So we've had a look at this and we've used a lot of people to craft a vision that might deal with a whole range of things - from safety, to access, parkland, fan engagement and potential for whatever might be required in the future."
The report is with the state government.
It follows an ambitious plan championed by Collingwood president Eddie McGuire that would involve the demolition of Etihad Stadium and a new stadium built near the MCG.
"We're not ruling things in or ruling things out," said Sports Minister John Eren.
"We're always keen to talk to all stakeholders in relation to what government can do and, clearly, it's a very important area for us.
"The more ideas, the better. Bring them on ... on occasions, our cheque comes out but we spend that money very carefully."
