Queensland back-rower Josh McGuire is facing a one-game NRL ban for his hit on NSW five-eighth James Maloney in the dying moments of Sunday's State of Origin clash.

McGuire caught Maloney late in the 80th-minute of the Blues' thumping 38-6 win in Perth, leaving the NSW half needing attention from a trainer as the final siren sounded.

The judiciary has charged McGuire with a grade one dangerous contact head/neck offence.

With four prior non-similar offences in the past two years, North Queensland's McGuire will miss one game regardless of whether he accepts an early guilty plea or not, meaning he'd miss the Cowboys clash with St George Illawarra on Friday.

NSW coach Brad Fittler was unimpressed by the attention on Maloney.

"I'd like to see that last tackle again, the last tackle of the game and some of the stuff that was going on towards Jimmy," Fittler said.

"I'm sure, what is it, the review board or the (match) review committee, they'll have a look at it."

Maroons forward Josh Wallace escaped any charge despite being put on report during the match for a late tackle on Maloney.

The Gold Coast prop, who came off the bench for Queensland, was penalised in the 50th minute when he hit Maloney after the 33-year-old had kicked the ball down field.

Despite the offence Wallace will be free to face Manly on Saturday for the Titans.
