A measles alert has been issued for Brisbane and the Gold Coast after a Victorian traveller visited Queensland's southeast while infectious.
Queensland Health say the person travelled to Brisbane from Melbourne on Jetstar flight JQ57 on September 22.
The patient then spent two days in the south Brisbane suburb of Kangaroo Point before heading to the Gold Coast.
During their time on the Gold Coast, the patient visited a medical centre in Broadbeach on September 26 and Robina Hospital on September 28.
Various shops and cafes in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads were also visited during the time the person was infectious up to September 30.
Health officials are warning people who were in those areas at the same time as the patient to be wary of measles symptoms.
"The initial symptoms of measles include fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore and red eyes," Queensland Health's communicable diseases branch executive director Dr Sonya Bennett said.
"This is followed a few days later by a blotchy, red rash which often starts on the face and then becomes widespread over the body."
Complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis make measles a potentially deadly illness, Dr Bennett said.
Symptoms usually start around 10 days after contact with an infectious person, but can occur up to 18 days after contact.
Dr Bennett said people should visit a doctor if they have any of the symptoms and were in those areas at the same time as the infectious person.
"It is very important to call the medical practice first if you think you might have measles, so that staff can take precautions to avoid you spreading it to others," she said.
