A cluster of measles cases has been identified in an inner city Melbourne suburb.
The four cases, which are not linked, are all within the suburbs of Brunswick or East Brunswick and were identified over the past week, the health department says.
Victoria's acting Chief Health Officer, Roscoe Taylor, said there is a possibility that "more people may have been infected from coming into contact with these people in the community".
A man and two women in their 20s and a woman in her 40s have contracted the virus but the source is yet to be identified.
Dr Taylor said the measles vaccine had made the disease uncommon and in most cases was linked to unvaccinated people travelling overseas - or being in contact with someone who has.
None of the people infected indicated they had been overseas recently.
With an incubation period of 18 days, there may be further cases identified in the coming days and people are being urged to get vaccinated.
