Mehajer allegedly linked to NRMA fraud

NSW police are investigating several fraudulent insurance claims allegedly linked to former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mejaher.

Former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer is allegedly caught up in several fraudulent insurance claims being investigated by police.

A series of similar collisions allegedly involving cars registered to Mehajer and his companies have been claimed through the NRMA, Seven Network reported.

Two collisions last year were strikingly similar to Mehajer's most recent crash on Monday, when he was stretchered into an ambulance wearing a neck brace, stopping him fronting a Sydney court on assault charges.

"The NSW Police force has recently received referrals relating to reported fraudulent comprehensive vehicle insurance claims...Investigations are underway," police told AAP on Wednesday.

An insurance assessment review found the cars were likely stationary when struck, Seven Network reported.

A NRMA Insurance spokeswoman said insurance fraud is taken "very seriously", and measures are in place to prevent, detect and respond to fraud.
