Mehajer appears in court over AVO

The controversial deputy mayor of Auburn, Salim Mehajer, has appeared in court over an AVO application.

Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has agreed to the terms of an AVO taken out against him by the father of a Lindt Cafe siege survivor.

The controversial figure, who gained infamy following his extravagant August wedding in western Sydney, did not say anything when he fronted Burwood Local Court on Thursday.

His lawyer, however, agreed to terms set out in an AVO application made by police on behalf of Bruce Herat - the father of Joel Herat.

Joel was one of the Lindt Cafe staffers who survived the December siege in which gunman Man Haron Monis took 18 people hostage.

Under the interim Apprehended Personal Violence Order (PVO), Mehajer is not allowed to enter the Anytime Fitness gym in Burwood where Mr Herat works.

He has also agreed not to contact, approach, assault, molest, stalk or intimidate Mr Herat.

The PVO taken out against Mehajer will return to court on November 19 - the same day he is set to face intimidation charges.

The 29-year-old didn't say anything when he left court.

The millionaire property developer was recently re-elected as deputy mayor for the council and has revealed his aspirations to enter federal politics.
