A young Melbourne man broke into a 16-year-old's bedroom and raped her over two terrifying hours that a judge says must have felt like an eternity to the traumatised girl.
Victorian County Court Judge Susan Pullen said it was difficult to find words to adequately describe the "vile" May offence of Samuel Robert Aldrich, 19, as she sentenced him to eight years and six months in prison.
During the two hours of digital rape and sexual abuse Aldrich told the girl he had a knife, and took photos of her.
"It was, to say the least, vile, terrifying and would have been absolutely traumatic," the judge said.
"The two hours must have seemed like an eternity to her - she was in her home being sexually abused by you."
Judge Pullen set a non-parole period of five years for Aldrich, who had previously pleaded guilty to one count each of rape and aggravated burglary, and three counts of indecent assault.
He will be registered as a sex offender for life.
Aldrich - who has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder - scouted the Cheltenham home for days before the attack and watched pornography about sleeping girls.
In the hours before the rape he watched pornography before breaking into the girl's bungalow about 1.30am, while she was asleep.
"You put your hand on her wrist and told her, 'Shh, shh, it's ok'. [She] was afraid and thought she was dreaming," Judge Pullen said.
"She pleaded for you not to do this to her, however you continued," she said.
The court heard Aldrich asked the victim at one point if she had been sexually abused before.
When she answered yes, he replied: "Well that's unfortunate, isn't it?"
Judge Pullen said while the degree of pre-planning was significant, she considered Aldrich's chances of rehabilitation moderate.
She ordered the 208 days Aldrich has spent in pre-sentencing custody to be taken into account in his sentence.
