Melbourne community celebrates real-life 'Forrest Gump'

A Melbourne man who's been running to work since 1979, has reached a milestone. And his local community turned out to help him celebrate 3000 runs.

As the Bruce Springsteen song goes, he was born to run.

Every morning for over 30 years, now-retired teacher Gary Hollingsworth has been running 16 km from his home in Riddells Creek in Melbourne's North West to the school in a neighbouring suburb, where he once taught maths.

And his local community turned out to help him celebrate 3000 runs.
