Melburnians continue to work through their sorrow and anger over the shocking death of international student Aiia Maasarwe, with the man charged with her murder appearing briefly in court.
Floral tributes for the 21-year-old were still being laid on Saturday at the place she was raped and killed after two vigils at nearby La Trobe University and in the CBD.
Visitors to the site included Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his family.
"I and the family had the opportunity to stand and pay our respects and grieve with all Melburnians, indeed all Australians, for the terrible and tragic loss of Aiia. Murdered here, in Melbourne, in our suburbs," he said before thanking the community for its condolences.
"Later today, I'm going to be meeting with her father. The words will fail me, I'm sure, as one father to another."
A prayer service and reading was also to be held at a mosque in Melbourne's northeast on Saturday night in Ms Maasarwe's honour.
It's been revealed she spent her final hours on Tuesday socialising with new friends and enjoying events in the city she'd called home for five months.
Arun Chandran, who ran a social meet-up group, told AAP she came to the event at Flagstaff Gardens for an hour until 8pm where she spoke with many gathered.
"She is very social, very down to earth - not like many people you meet," he said.
Ms Maasarwe then went to a Melbourne comedy club and was heading home, speaking to her sister by phone, when attacked after getting off the route 86 tram in Bundoora.
Her body was found near a shopping centre on Main Drive near Plenty Road about 7am the same day.
Ms Maasarwe's father, Saeed Maasarwe spoke of his "special girl" at a vigil on Friday evening.
"All the time she think positive, she happy. She can make everything even from the worst situation happy and joke," he said, noting he'd planned to visit her from overseas later this month.
"My worst dream. I have good dream, nice dream to be with my daughter not this situation."
She had been attending college on the grounds of La Trobe University.
Wannabe rapper Codey Herrmann has been charged with Ms Maasarwe's rape and murder.
The homeless 20-year-old faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday afternoon.
He barely lifted his head throughout the appearance, was refused bail and will reappear in the same court on Monday.
