A young Victorian dad has died from flu complications on Father's Day.

Bacchus Marsh man Ben Ihlow has been described "warm and generous" on a fundraising page following his death on Sunday.

The page was set up to support his wife Samantha and their infant son, Andrew.

"His death has come as a great shock to all and as a community we want to help support Samantha and the couple's baby for their future," a statement on the page said.

The tragedy comes after eight elderly residents died at a Wangaratta retirement centre, with more than 100 staff and residents also taken ill.
