Melbourne fashion students with refugee and migrant backgrounds are becoming some of Australia's emerging designers.

'The Social Studio's mission is to nurture the passion for fashion in Australia's new migrant and refugee communities, offering free training to those showing industry promise.
"When I was 2 years old my mum bought me a doll and I didn't like the clothes she was wearing, so I just cut up my own clothes and made her heaps of clothes and stuff," said Alek Nyok, who is a student at the Social Studio.
The work will be showcased during Melbourne's September Spring fashion week and student designs are sold in Melbourne and online.
"I think its just so exciting to have a new fashion influence happening here in Australia," said Glenys Shearer, chair of Melbourne Fashion Week.
