Melbourne hit-run accused to face court

A man is expected to face Melbourne Magistrates Court after being charged over a crash that claimed the life of a 54-year-old cyclist.

A man is due to face a Melbourne court after being charged over a crash that killed a cyclist.

Police will allege the Fitzroy North man, 27, was driving a Holden Rodeo on Barkly Street in West Footscray on Thursday afternoon when he hit a cyclist and parked car near the intersection of Argyle Street.

It will be further alleged after the crash the man parked his car and then ran off.

The cyclist, a 54-year-old New Zealand man who had Australian residency, died at the scene.

The 27-year-old was charged on Friday with multiple driving offences, including culpable driving and dangerous driving causing death and was remanded in custody following an out of sessions hearing to face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday.
