Melbourne Metro Tunnel forces road closure

A busy section of Melbourne road will be closed for four years while the Metro Tunnel's Town Hall station is built at Federation Square.

A section of a busy Melbourne CBD road will be closed for four years from October as the Metro Tunnel rail project ramps up construction at Federation Square.

Heritage Victoria, which is currently assessing the square for its heritage value, has allowed a permit exemption so that fencing and ramps can be erected around the old visitor centre, which will eventually become an entrance for the new Town Hall station.

The left-hand turn from Flinders Street on to St Kilda Road will also be closed for several years so that construction machinery can access the site.
