Melbourne's seemingly never-ending summer is continuing with the city set for a third straight day above 25C and more warm weather forecast well into next week.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a high of 28C on Wednesday which follows maximums of 27C on Tuesday and 25C on Monday.
"April is kind of like a month of transition, so your odds of still getting warm, summery kind of weather are still fairly high," BoM forecaster Chris Godfred told AAP.
The warm spell is due to a slow-moving belt of high pressure, but there's 10 millimetres of rain forecast for Thursday and lower temperatures are likely during the weekend.
But the hotter conditions are set to return early next week, including on Anzac Day.
"It doesn't look like it's going to be quite as warm, but we are looking set for a fairly decent spell of warm, sunny weather as we move into the long weekend," Mr Godfred said on Wednesday.
The warm weather is not as unseasonable as some might think, the forecaster notes.
"You can often get periods during the middle of autumn, around April, where you do get quite stable weather," Mr Godfred said.
Back in April 1923 Melbourne experienced a record nine days in a row above 25C.
This April's warm weather comes after an unseasonably hot March broke records.
On March 8 the city had its hottest March day in eight years.
Melbourne's CBD hit 38.9C - just 2.7C below the hottest March day ever recorded in 1940 - as Moorabbin hit 40.8C, which was its hottest March day on record.
That day turned into the city's hottest March night since records began, as temperatures hovered around 30C for most of the night.
