FILLING THE GAP IN MELBOURNE'S NORTH EAST LINK
The proposed routes for Melbourne's "missing" freeway link, which will complete the Metropolitan Ring Road by connecting the ring road to either the Eastern Freeway or EastLink.
OPTION A
* Starts at Greensborough and connects with Eastern Freeway near Bulleen Road, 11km long, 4km of tunnel, estimated $6.1 billion cost
OPTION B
* Starts at Greensborough and connects to East Link via the Ringwood Bypass, no Eastern Freeway upgrades necessary, 24km long, 17km of tunnel, estimated $19 billion cost
OPTION C:
Starts at Greensborough and connects to East Link via Reynolds Road, 26km long, 13km of tunnel, estimated $16.9 billion cost
OPTION D:
Starts at Greensborough and connects to EastLink via the proposed Healesville Freeway Reserve, 40km long, 16km of tunnel, estimated $23 billion cost
DECISION:
* A decision on the preferred route is expected to be made by the end of 2017
* Labor has previously promised to take the project to voters at the 2018 state election.
