Meldonium positive for wrestler Novak

Czech wrestler Petr Novak has tested positive for meldonium, the same drug Maria Sharapova was caught using.

Czech wrestler Petr Novak has tested positive for meldonium, the first such case in the country.

Czech Wrestling Federation spokesman Petr Vurbs says Novak failed an out-of-competition test in January during training for Olympic qualifying with the Czech national team.

Novak finished 11th at the 2014 world championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in men's Greco-Roman wrestling.

Meldonium has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency since January 1. The drug increases blood flow, which improves exercise capacity by carrying more oxygen to muscle tissue.

Maria Sharapova was among those caught using it.
