Memphis succumb to NBA leaders Toronto

The Toronto Raptors have overcome a 17-point deficit to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 122-114 to seal their best start to an NBA campaign.

Kyle Lowry scored 24 points while Kawhi Leonard added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Raptors, who won their sixth game in a row for the third time this season.

Fred VanVleet was perfect from the field, including a trio of three-pointers, for 18 points off the bench.

Marc Gasol led Memphis with 27 points and Mike Conley added 20.

The Raptors at 18-4 are two games clear of the Milwaukee Bucks for the best record in the league while Memphis dropped to 12-8 after a third successive loss.

Blake Griffin scored 30 points to lift the Detroit Pistons to a 115-108 victory over the New York Knicks.

Stanley Johnson and Reggie Jackson both added 21 points for Detroit who improved to 11-7 and consolidated their place in the eastern conference top eight.

Allonzo Trier scored 24 points for the Knicks, who had won a season-high three in a row.

The Pistons are off to a solid start under reigning NBA coach of the year Dwane Casey, who was sacked by the Raptors despite leading them to the best record in the east last season.

However, nine of the Pistons' victories have been against teams that currently have losing records.

Josh Richardson led Miami with 22 points but his potential winning 3-pointer with three seconds left rimmed out to give the Atlanta Hawks a 115-113 win.

Taurean Prince scored 18 points while Trae Young finished with 17 points and 10 assists as the Hawks snapped a seven-game road slide.

Two of Atlanta's five wins are against Miami, who have lost six straight at home.

Paul Millsap had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Jamal Murray scored 20 as the Denver Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Lakers 117-85.

Malik Beasley also had 20 points to establish a career high, and Nikola Jokic had 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and for the Nuggets.

Denver has now won four straight after dropping six of its previous seven.

The Lakers were five of 35 from behind the three-point line and shot just 39.1 per cent overall.

LeBron James missed all four of his three-point attempts and was limited to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Domantas Sabonis scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Indiana Pacers to a 109-104 road win over the Phoenix Suns.
