The head of Mercedes Benz in Australia has travelled to Western Australia's iconic Wave Rock, to apologise for a stunt that upset the site's traditional owners the Noongar people.

The car company filmed a promotional video earlier in the year, featuring a BMX rider on the rock.

Protocols will be put in place to prevent a repeat of the controversy.
