Merrin admitted milking a penalty: Scott

Cowboys co-captain Matt Scott was put on report for the second time this year in North Queensland's NRL win over Penrith.

North Queensland co-captain Matt Scott has accused Penrith forward Trent Merrin of feigning injury in an NRL crusher tackle that ended in the Cowboys prop being placed on report.

It's the second time the Queensland front-rower has been in trouble for dangerous contact to the neck this year, having successfully challenged a charge on Parramatta's Kenny Edwards in round two.

But this time Scott was told by Merrin he stayed down to claim a penalty in the Cowboys' 23-18 win on Saturday night at Pepper Stadium.

"Trent said to me at the end of the game that he milked it," Scott said.

"So I'm hoping that they take that into account."

Scott said teammate Jason Taumalolo was caught in a similar situation in the first half, but it wasn't looked at because he got up and played the ball.

"The opposition wants two points or they want a penalty and stay down, it gets looked at," he said.

"There was no force applied to his head. He was fine. He said to me after the game his neck was fine and he was milking it for a penalty. Hopefully it gets looked at like that."

Cowboys coach Paul Green believes referees are merely being cautious and putting players in the hands of the match review committee.

"I think they're obviously very nervous whenever it comes to neck incidences," he said.

"The moment they look at anything like that, the safe option for the refs is to put it on report.

"We've had one earlier this year where when you slow it down and have a good look at the techniques involved, there isn't anything to worry about."
