Mexico's 'silicon valley' booms

Guadalajara, the 'silicon valley' of Mexico, may be booming but it hasn't escaped the effects of the nation's drug wars.

Guadalajara's exploding tech industry is key to Mexico's economy. It has everything, from startups to giant companies.

Mexican tech firms aren't the only ones drawn to Guadalajara. Tech giant Intel currently employs a thousand people in the city, and has plans to double that number.

Though Guadalajara is relatively safer than most cities, this former manufacturing hub has not escaped the effects of Mexico's drug wars.

Companies say the country's overall image could hinder its growth.

“We were trying to hire two persons from Spain,” said Angel Banuelos, CEO of Mexican tech firm Mas Fusion,

“And they were saying, 'No we do not want to go there because there's some important security issues there.'
