Australian surfer Mick Fanning's horror run has continued, with the three-time world champion confirming he has split with designer wife, Karissa Dalton.
In a statement posted on his Facebook on Monday, Fanning confirmed his marriage of eight years was over.
"Karissa has stood by me since we first met in 2004. We have shared plenty of great times but more importantly she has helped me through some of the toughest moments in my life, especially this past year," he wrote.
Fanning confirmed the pair had split last February but had been trying to work through their issues until agreeing recently to move on.
It has been a tough 12 months for Fanning, who survived a shark attack while competing in South Africa in July.
His brother Peter died suddenly in December while Fanning was attempting to claim a fourth world title at the season-ending Pipeline Masters event in Hawaii.
Fanning finished second in the title race after losing his semi-final heat to Brazilian Gabriel Medina.
The 34-year-old said he confirmed his marital split to end any speculation.
