Microsoft acquires tech company Equivio

Microsoft has acquired Equivio, a small company selling software that can read and sort legal documents, the software giant announced last week.

Terms were not disclosed.

Equivio is based in Israel but has a presence in Rockville and Kensington, Maryland.

Its customers include the Justice Department, the Federal Trade Commission, Deloitte and hundreds of other organizations, according to Equivio's website. Neither company responded to a request for comment.

Equivio's flagship software allows users to churn through text using a machine-learning technology that can sort documents by theme, group duplicates and near-duplicates and isolate unique data, according to Microsoft's post.
