The king of satire on US television is trolling US Vice President Mike Pence by spoofing a book about his family's pet rabbit and it has found an unlikely fan.
On Monday, Americans have been able to read all about the Pence's pet rabbit Marlon Bundo in a new children's book A Day in the Life of the Vice President.
Written by Pence's 24-year-old daughter Charlotte and illustrated by wife Karen, the hardback shows the world of Mr Pence through the eyes of little Marlon Bundo.
But British satirist John Oliver appears to have had the last laugh, coming up with his own version to highlight the conservative Pence's opposition to gay marriage.
He too has published a children's book featuring the vice presidential rabbit - A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo.
Except this time the boy bunny falls in love with another boy bunny, before the two get hitched despite the best efforts of the vice president.
Since its release Mike Pence's daughter, Charlotte, has come out in support of the book and said all proceeds from her book are going to charity.
"I think imitation is the most sincere form of flattery in a way, but also, in all seriousness, his book is contributing to charities that I think we can all get behind," she told Fox News.
"We have two books that are giving to charities that are about bunnies, so I'm all for it, really."
Mr Oliver's book, published Sunday and illustrated by EG Keller, has since shot to the top of the Amazon best seller list, outstripping the Pence version in at fourth place.
Mr Oliver told NBC television Monday that the Last Week Tonight version of the book quickly sold out but that a new shipment had been ordered. Both books are being sold for charity.
"The only thing better than one bunny book for charity is... TWO bunny books for charity," Pence's daughter wrote on her Instagram page.
The book proceeds from the Last Week Tonight book's proceeds will go to the Trevor Project and AIDs United.
