Milford all set for Broncos' NRL opener

He hasn't featured in any pre-season matches but Brisbane five-eighth Anthony Milford is a sure starter for the Broncos' NRL opener, coach Anthony Seibold says.

Despite not playing a single pre-season game, five-eighth Anthony Milford has been declared a certain starter for Brisbane's NRL round one clash.

Milford only began full training earlier this week after undergoing shoulder surgery last year.

The Queensland State of Origin representative was eager to play in Saturday's trial against Gold Coast but coach Anthony Seibold intervened, keeping one eye on the season opener against Melbourne on March 14.

"Anthony could play on Saturday. We decided to give him a long preparation in to the Storm game so we've got no concerns there," Seibold said.

"Milf has had a disrupted pre-season with his shoulder reconstruction, he had two and a half weeks there where he was working on a slight hammy injury.

"He's done plenty of football, he's really confident. I had a conversation with him and he was desperate to play this week so I sort of said 'listen, let's be smart about this' and he understands."

While Milford won't feature against the Titans, the Broncos head to their south-east Queensland rivals with a strong lineup.

Representative forward Matt Gillett will make his return after almost a year on the sidelines with neck and shoulder injuries.

The 30-year-old will play at lock, giving Alex Glenn and youngster David Fifita the change to impress as backrowers.

"You use trial games to trial some things and we want to have a look through Gillo in the middle of the park and obviously it allows David Fifita to start tomorrow evening," Seibold said.

"It's just something that we want to have a look at and go from there."
