Kyle Lowry scored 24 points and DeMar DeRozen added 21 as the Toronto Raptors defeated the San Antonio Spurs 86-83 in a defensive battle in Toronto.

Australia's Patty Mills played well for the losing side, scoring 13 points and getting five rebounds, although he only hit one out of nine three-point shots.

Toronto led just 70-69 with 6:53 to play but ran away with a 10-2 run over the ensuing four and a half minutes to build enough of a cushion to hold off the Spurs' late surge, which included a last-second missed shot by Bryn Forbes that could have tied the game.

Elsewhere, DeMarre Carroll scored 26 points, Spencer Dinwiddie had 15 and the Brooklyn Nets beat the Miami Heat 101-95.

Brooklyn snapped a five-game losing run at their home arena, the Barclays Center, and a seven-game home losing streak to the Heat.

Caris LeVert and Joe Harris each added 12 points for the Nets.

Dillon Brooks scored 22 points as the Grizzlies spoiled Zach Randolph's return to Memphis in a 106-88 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Tyreke Evans added 14 points and Andrew Harrison had 12 for the Grizzlies, who won their third straight game while sending the Kings to their seventh straight loss.

And Kelly Oubre and Bradley Beal scored 26 points apiece and the Washington Wizards handed the Detroit Pistons their fourth consecutive loss, 122-112.

In the day's other games, Devin Booker scored 30 points, T.J. Warren had 25, to help the Phoenix Suns defeat the Denver Nuggets 108-100, while reserve guard Jordan Clarkson sparked an undermanned Lakers team with 33 points to lead Los Angeles to a 99-86 over the Indiana Pacers.

The Lakers, missing three injured starters, snapped a two-game skid despite making just two of 14 free throws. They shot 14.3 per cent from the line, a franchise low.

Tim Hardaway Jnr scored 31 points in a New York Knicks rally to beat the Utah Jazz 117-115.

Australia's Joe Ingles had seven rebounds, four assists and scored nine points for the Jazz.
