Minister charged with historical assaults

A former Anglican minister has been charged with sexual assaults against two boys in the 1970s around the NSW Hunter region.

A former clergyman will face court next year charged with historical sexual assaults against two boys in the NSW Hunter region.

Newcastle police from Strike Force Arinya 2 began investigations in 2013 into assaults against two boys around various suburbs in the region, including Edgeworth, Minmi, West Wallsend, Gatesehead and Belmont.

The former Anglican minister, 79, from Ballarat, was charged with 24 offences, including six counts of buggery and 16 counts of indecent assault upon a male, allegedly committed between 1971 and 1975.

He faces Newcastle Court on February 2.
