Closing the gender pay gap requires a co-ordinated effort from governments, industry and individuals, South Australian Status of Women Minister Zoe Bettison says.
The pay gap in SA is currently 11 per cent, the second lowest in Australia behind the ACT.
The minister says the gap is influenced by work, family, culture and society and often includes stereotypes about the work women and men should do.
"The gender pay gap has decreased this year, which is good, but any number above zero is not acceptable," Ms Bettison said.
Marking equal pay day, she said the state government supported strategies to help address the pay gap including increasing women's participation in traditionally male-dominated occupations, flexible work options for men and women, and mentoring programs for women.
Closing the gap remained a priority for the state government, she said.
