Australian ministers are joining global climate change talks that will help set the rules for a landmark agreement for action the government ratified last week.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg arrive in Marrakech, in Morocco, on Monday to join the United Nations talks.
The meetings are the first step in writing the rule book for the Paris agreement on climate change action which came into force earlier in November and which Australia ratified last Thursday.
The ministers will participate in a series of high level talks including the Paris agreements, financing climate change efforts, and a meeting of Pacific Island interests.
Ms Bishop and Mr Frydenberg will also look for opportunities to collaborate with other countries and the private sector to reduce global emissions and promote climate resilience.
Environmental groups said Australia's ratification of the agreement, coming a day after Donald Trump was elected the next US president, sent a strong signal to the world about the importance of staying committed to acting on climate change.
