Australian star Minjee Lee's hot form continued as she powered to a three-shot lead at the Canberra Classic on Saturday.

The world No.17 stormed ahead of South Korea's Jiyai Shin on the second day at Royal Canberra with a sizzling nine-under round of 63 that took her to 14-under for the tournament.

Shin was clubhouse leader after round one, with Lee tied for second with Norway's Karoline Lund two shots behind.

Lee's second-round performance included eight birdies and a first-hole eagle.

"If you start off with an eagle, you feel pretty good," Lee said.

"I felt good after that and took advantage of the birdie opportunities on the par fives."

Shin is outright second at 11-under after a four-under round of 68, while Sweden's Pernilla Lindberg (66) is in contention a shot behind her.

Holland's Anne Van Dam (68) is at eight-under while American Beth Allen and England's Holly Clyburn are tied for fifth a stroke further back.

Katherine Kirk is the second highest-placed Australian at four-under in a tie for 11th.

English veteran Laura Davies, who tipped Lee and Shin as the ones to beat prior to the tournament, had a forgettable second round of four-over to drop out of contention in a tie for 40th.

Australian talent Doey Choi is the highest-placed amateur, with the 17-year-old hitting a round of 69 to move to three-under.
