Miranda Kerr's alleged stalker in court

Shaun Haywood is being held at the infamous Twin Towers jail in downtown Los Angeles after being accused of stalking Australian model Miranda Kerr.

The Australian man accused of the attempted murder of supermodel Miranda Kerr's Malibu security guard remains behind bars in Los Angeles as questions remain if he is mentally competent to stand trial.

Shaun Anthony Haywood, dressed in a bright yellow v-neck prison jumpsuit, smiled on Monday as he was led into the Los Angeles Superior Court under the guard of a sheriff.

The court heard Haywood was still being assessed to determine if he was mentally competent to stand trial.

The matter was adjourned until March 28 when the competency report was expected to be completed.

If cleared for trial the proceedings could be held within 20 days.

Haywood, 30, a former professional boxer from the NSW Central Coast, allegedly went to Kerr's Malibu home on October 14, 2016 to deliver her a letter, but became involved in a confrontation with the security guard.

Hayward allegedly grabbed the security guard's knife and slashed the guard in the face.

Prosecutors said the guard responded by shooting Hayward.

Kerr and her young son Flynn, who have since moved out of the house, were not home at the time.

Hayward has entered not guilty pleas to charges of attempted wilful, deliberate and premeditated murder; aggravated mayhem; and assault with a deadly weapon, a knife.

Haywood has been in custody since his arrest and is currently held at the Twin Towers jail in downtown LA.
