Missing 6yo Canberra boy found safe

Missing six-year-old boy Phoenix Mapham has been located near Canberra as his mother has been arrested and will face charges relating to unlawful taking.

A missing Canberra boy, who police had serious fears for, has been found safe and well a week after disappearing.

Phoenix Mapham, six, has been located just over the NSW border in Carwoola after last being seen in the nation's capital seven days ago.

Such were the fears for the boy's safety, it was the first time ACT Policing had issued a national amber alert appealing to the public for help.

Phoenix was last seen with his mother Tessa Woodcock on August 23.

ACT Policing confirmed Ms Woodcock has been arrested and she will face charges relating to the unlawful taking of Phoenix.

"Our focus since last Thursday has been the safety of Phoenix," Detective Station Sergeant Harry Hains said.

"It is tremendous news that he has been found, and that he is safe and well."
