Missing American tourist found safe

An American tourist has been located after he was thought to be missing on Kangaroo Island.

An American tourist who hadn't shown up at the end of a planned five-day hike on South Australia's Kangaroo Island has been found safe in another state.

SES volunteers began searching campsites along the trail on Tuesday night to find American Peter Byrne, who had not arrived at the end of the hike as expected.

But SA police say the tourist has since been found safe and well in another state.

It is not yet known if he actually arrived on Kangaroo Island or commenced the wilderness walk.
