Missing German found alive in remote WA

A German backpacker who was believed missing while trying to trek more than 400km in remote WA has been found alive.

A German backpacker who was feared missing in a remote part of Western Australia while attempting a more than 400km solo walk has been found alive.

A station hand came across the man on Saturday when he was about 100km east of Carnarvon and on his way to Mount Augustus, but had very little food or water with him.

It was believed the backpacker, who said his name was Daniel, might have left Carnarvon just under a fortnight ago.

A land and air search was launched and on Thursday afternoon - a day after police learned of the exchange with the station hand - a fixed wing aircraft spotted the man near Mooka Station, east of Carnarvon.

Officers on the ground reached him and he appeared to be in good health but was taken to Carnarvon for further medical assessment, police said.
