The body of a missing pregnant Australian woman has been found in India, 11 days after her family said she was kidnapped while speaking on the phone to her husband in Australia.

Ravneet Kaur, 29, was four-months pregnant when she was allegedly kidnapped outside her parents home in Bagge Ke Pippal on March 14.

A police officer investigating the case told SBS Punjabi that the Gold Coast nurse was kidnapped, sedated and strangled before her body was dumped in a canal nearly 200 kilometres away, near Patiala.

Police officials said they have charged four people - including Ms Kaur's husband and an Australian woman he was allegedly having an affair with - in connection to the death.

“The arrested woman has told us that the victim was strangled and when they believed she was dead, they kept driving through villages until it was dark and dumped the body in a canal near Samana [in Patiala district],” Inspector Mohit Dhawan said.

But it might be weeks until an official cause of death is known.

“However, to prepare evidence, we need to know the exact cause of death and that will be confirmed only once we have the report," Mr Dhawan said.

Ms Kaur's husband denies the allegations.

Indian officials said they would seek to extradite Ms Kaur's husband and the other Australian woman to India after the completion of the investigation.

Ms Kaur arrived in India to visit her parents with her four-year-old daughter on February 27.
