A 93-year-old war veteran has died while fishing alone off South Australia's Yorke Peninsula.

Stan Alford's body was found off the coast of Port Broughton just after 8.30am on Sunday, not long after a search resumed.

He'd been missing since Saturday afternoon when another fisherman found his empty boat adrift in Fisherman Bay.

Police, the local SES and CFS, local fishermen and volunteers started searching for Mr Alford around 4pm on Saturday before suspending it.

His family said Mr Alford often went fishing by himself.
