An American woman who went missing after failing to return from a bush walk in far north Queensland has been found.

Police and SES crews launched a major air and land search for the 25-year-old at Mount Sorrow in Cape Tribulation, north of Cairns, on Thursday after she did not return as expected earlier that day.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the woman appeared unharmed when she emerged from the bush and walked into a carpark on Friday afternoon.
