Missing WA kayaker a state champion

Emergency crews are continuing to search for a woman who went missing while kayaking on a river in Western Australia's South West region.

The family of a kayaker missing in a West Australian river system says she was a state champion in the sport, and have described her as a loving mother and sister.

Emergency services continue to scour the Blackwood River in the state's South West for signs of 48-year-old Susan Quick, who was reported missing on Sunday morning, 5km west of Bridgetown.

In a statement released through WA Police, Ms Quick's family thanked the volunteers involved in the search and described the Ballajura woman as "passionate and strong".

"We are extremely saddened by the events of yesterday and are hopeful of news today," the statement said.

Recent heavy rainfall has prompted flood warnings for the Blackwood River, with the water running faster and higher than usual.

Water police and local police are co-ordinating the search and State Emergency Service volunteers are scouring the area.
